Liverpool player ratings v Swansea: Defender is all over the place

By Matt Farr

Football Insider rates the Liverpool players during their shock 3-2 defeat to Swansea in the Premier League on Saturday.

Simon Mignolet 6 – Rarely tested. Only real action was to pick the ball out of his net three times. Let down by his team-mates.

Nathaniel Clyne 6 – A straightforward return to action. Kept Swansea’s most creative player Gylfi Sigurdsson out the game for large periods.

James Milner 6 – Constant bursts forward, teasing deliveries. The defensive problems here were not in the wide areas.

Ragnar Klavan 4 – The defender lived dangerously and was generally all over the place. Faced a tough time keeping Fernando Llorente under wraps. Given Llorente scored twice, he failed.

Dejan Lovren 5 – Fared better than his defensive-partner, but not much to cheer about.

Emre Can 6 – A quiet game for the German. Room for improvement next time out.

Jordan Henderson 7 – Was allowed to run the midfield as their opponents sat back in the first-half. Crisp passing and quality delivery.

Georginio Wijnaldum 6 – Not too much tempo to Liverpool’s game for the first hour. Wijnaldum did little to change that. But a decent assist for Firmino’s second.

Philippe Coutinho 6 – Given too much space and time on the ball in the first-period, but didn’t conjure any of his usual magic.

Adam Lallana 7 – Showed plenty of intent, at the heart of every Liverpool move. Sometimse got muddled with Firmino in his positioning and movement.

Roberto Firmino 8 – Gave the Swans defence the runaround. Score two superb goals to get his side back into the game.

Subs:

Daniel Sturridge 6 (for Coutinho 57) – Didn’t have the desired impact.

Divock Origi 6 (for Can 71) – Same as his fellow substitute.

Joel Matip 6 (for Wijnaldum 94) – A last-minute introduction as a centre-forward target-man.
