Liverpool plot new Anthony Gordon bid after ‘£80m’ Newcastle reveal – sources
Liverpool are plotting a second bid for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon this summer.
That’s the view of senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast.
Liverpool’s first attempt to secure the winger was rebuffed, with Newcastle also pushing to have Jarell Quansah involved in a potential deal.
The Reds rejected that idea and a straight-cash deal could now be the focus, but the north-east giants want a “huge fee” for Gordon.
Gordon’s name had been mentioned before June 30 as someone to cash in on as Newcastle contended with profit and sustainability issues, but the club and Eddie Howe were determined to keep him.
Liverpool might have to look at alternative options
Even though Gordon is of interest to Liverpool, Howe does not want to lose him and has begun planning for the new campaign with him in mind.
Newcastle wants a minimum fee of £70million, and sources say Liverpool could find that price tag too high.
That’s why the Premier League giants might have to consider alternative options this summer to bolster the attacking side of their squad.
But it also remains to be seen whether Gordon wants the move or not when he returns from international duty, as that could cause Newcastle an issue.

One reason why Liverpool wants another winger is that Arne Slot is set to use Gody Gapko in a different position.
