Liverpool plotting to trigger ‘bargain’ Jeremie Frimpong release clause – sources

Liverpool and Man United are among the Premier League sides keen on a potential move for Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old, who is also being monitored by Arsenal ahead of the off-season, will be available via a £35million release clause in the summer window.

Frimpong has been a star performer for Leverkusen – who are closing in on the Bundesliga title having yet to taste defeat in the 2023-24 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (2 April) that Celtic will bank around £7million if the right wing-back moves on this summer amid “huge” Premier League interest.

Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal all keen on ‘bargain’ Frimpong deal

Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal are all keen on potential moves, with a well-placed source telling Football Insider that his £35million buyout clause is seen as a “bargain” by club chiefs in England.

It is believed the Anfield side could launch a move for the 23-year-old if their next manager chooses to move star man Trent Alexander-Arnold into midfield full-time.

He has managed 11 goals and 11 assists from the right flank for Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen this season.

That output has come in 34 total appearances this term with the German side still able to win a treble this season.

Man City

Intriguingly, the number one contender to be the next Liverpool manager, Ruben Amorim, has also lined up his team in a 3-4-3 system this season using wing-backs.

Frimpong came through the ranks at Man City before joining Celtic in 2019 – and onto Leverkusen in January 2021.
