‘Liverpool PSR issues’ addressed by boardroom source after January no-show

Liverpool failed to add to Arne Slot’s squad in the January transfer window while champions Man City drafted in £180million of reinforcements.

The Reds also had a muted window last summer (2024), with only winger Federico Chiesa arriving at Anfield, raising questions over concerns about breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness, who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs, has had his say on where Liverpool stand financially after two quiet windows.

Liverpool points deduction latest from top PSR expert

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the boardroom source moved to allay fears about a potential PSR breach.

Liverpool currently sit top of the Premier League and are already in the hat for the last 16 of the Champions League, which kicks off next month.

Wyness insisted Slot is “happy” with his current squad and will have been keen not to “upset the chemistry” at Anfield in the mid-season window.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I don’t think it’s PSR issues at Liverpool.

“They are just content. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

“They’re sitting six points clear in the Premier League table with a game in hand.

“The squad is performing well and they’ve managed to maximise the squad that Klopp left, and keep them injury-free to a degree.

“Overall, they’ve not done badly with injury.

“Things are going well, so there was no need to tinker. Slot’s happy, he’s got everything calmed down.

“The players came from their victory in London on Saturday and went for a big meal, big team bonding session – those are good signs.

“Bringing a new face in and potentially upsetting the chemistry in January – why do it when things are going so well?

“There seems to be no compelling need in any position, things are going well.”

Liverpool could move for Andy Robertson replacement this summer

Left-back has been earmarked as a position requiring improvement in the upcoming summer window with Andy Robertson’s performances coming into sharp focus this season.

Recruitment expert Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Liverpool could make their move for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez in off-season.

The Reds must also contend with expiring contracts for star trio Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Wyness has previously told Football Insider that a recent £14million increase in wage costs at Anfield will not prevent them agreeing new contracts for Liverpool stars Salah, Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk.
