‘Liverpool pursuit of £50million Premier League star gathers pace’: ‘Contract ready’

Liverpool are still reveling in this season’s Premier League title success, but the Reds could be set to seal a big-money signing in the near future.

Arne Slot’s side won the league last month (27 April) with four games still remaining of the campaign, and currently sit twelve points clear of second-placed Arsenal.

However, despite their success, it hasn’t been completely plain sailing for the champions in recent times, with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to join Real Madrid after refusing to sign a new contract at his boyhood club.

The full-back’s departure has slightly soured celebrations at Anfield, and the 26-year-old was booed by supporters when coming on against the Gunners.

Higher-ups at Liverpool will be eager to lift the mood with some high-profile incomings over the summer, and it seems as if one deal is close to being completed.

Liverpool close in on £50m signing

With Alexander-Arnold departing, the Reds will need to bring in a new right-back, but they also have issues on the other flank.

Andy Robertson is now 31 years old, and the Merseyside club are looking to bring in a long-term replacement for the Scottish international.

Milos Kerkez has long been a target for the Liverpool, and a deal is now close to being agreed for the Hungarian.

Journalist Nicolo Schira reported on X (19 May), that there have been positive talks between Liverpool and Kerkez’s agent, with the Bournemouth full-back confirming he is happy to join the Reds.

Schira added that a contract until 2030 is ready, with the final step being for the two clubs to agree on a price, currently expected to be between £45m and £50m.

Liverpool aim to repeat success

Football Insider Verdict

As we’ve seen so many times in the Premier League, it is one thing to reach the top and win a title, but it is quite another to stay there.

Manchester City’s era of dominance came to an abrupt end this season, and it served as a stark reminder that nothing is ever guaranteed in football.

Kerkez has been superb for Bournemouth over the past year and has had an impressive campaign on the south coast, starting every single game for the Cherries as well as picking up six assists.

The left-back would be a smart addition for the Reds, and with Liverpool also set to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, they could have a new duo at full-back.

Slot has been near-perfect since he took over from Jurgen Klopp last summer, and astute signings like Kerkez and Frimpong will ensure that his side continue to challenge at the sharp end of the Premier League.
