Liverpool push for Premier League ban that will harm Man City – Stefan Borson
Liverpool are part of a group of clubs who will want associated party transactions completely banned across the Premier League.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Reds will push for a league-wide ban as they are not benefitting from associated sponsorship deals themselves.
Manchester City are set to take on the Premier League over their commercial rules on associated party deals.
The reigning champions described the regulations as “unlawful” after the Premier League toughened up the process of striking sponsorship deals with related parties in February.
A two-week hearing started on Monday (10 June) with a final verdict expected before the start of the 2024-25 season.
Borson explained that while some clubs will support City’s challenge, Liverpool will be firmly against them and will want associated party deals completely banned.
Liverpool will want associated deals banned completely after Man City case
“I think Liverpool will be part of a category of clubs who will be some of the most vocal about associated party transaction rules,” Borson told Football Insider.
“They will be vocal about strengthening every rule around this.
“They will be a key instigator because they don’t have that as a source of revenue.
“They’re not looking to bring in any of FSG’s partners as sponsors and therefore I suspect they would like associated party transactions completely banned.

“We always have to remember everybody around the table in those Premier League rules are quite entitled to look out for themselves.
“There’s nothing in itself wrong with those clubs looking out for their own interests.“
