Liverpool ramp up ‘serious moves’ ahead of January window
Liverpool could be set to make big moves in the January transfer window in order to address a worrying weakness that has emerged in their squad.
Arne Slot’s side have struggled in the early stages of the new season, as they aim to defend their Premier League title.
Liverpool lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the last game before the international break, and are now eight points adrift of table-topping Arsenal.
The Reds have already conceded 17 goals this season in the league, highlighting their drop-off in defensive areas.

Liverpool must address their big issue
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Liverpool have to address their defensive issues.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Slot’s side will make serious moves in the January transfer window to reinforce their backline.
Liverpool lost young centre-back Giovanni Leoni to an ACL tear back in September so are struggling for depth in that position.
Wyness added that the Reds’ defence has been their biggest weakness and is a big part of why they are losing so many games.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Liverpool have got to make moves in defence in January. That’s been their weakness.
“I can’t remember how many times they have got off to a losing start in games and they haven’t been able to catch up as they’ve done before.
“We know that Konate is getting some criticism, as is Virgil van Dijk. They’ve got to get that defence sorted out. I expect them to make some serious moves in January in that area.”
Liverpool will make new push for major defender target
Meanwhile, Liverpool will make a strong new push for Marc Guehi in the January window after the last-minute summer collapse, sources have told Football Insider.

The Crystal Palace defender, 25, came within a whisker of completing a move to Anfield after agreeing terms with the club.
Sources say Liverpool recognise they messed up over the deal and the club will go “all out” to get Guehi in the mid-season window.
However, their pursuit is now complicated by strong interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, who are both working on deals to land Guehi next year.
