‘Liverpool ready to sell four attackers as Arne Slot’s stunning rebuild accelerates’

Liverpool are close to wrapping up a deal for Jeremie Frimpong and are now the front-runners to land attacking midfield star Florian Wirtz in a sensational double coup.

However, the Reds are yet to make any major moves in attack despite Darwin Nunez looking certain to leave Liverpool amid growing interest in his services.

Mohamed Salah has shouldered the responsibility of providing goal threat for Arne Slot‘s side this term – being involved in 54% of their Premier League strikes so far.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested Liverpool may have to sell in order to improve their attack, and believes up to four players could leave Anfield this summer.

Liverpool ‘won’t be short of cash’ after Premier League win, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness suggested Nunez, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott could all depart this summer.

Slot was given just one signing – Federico Chiesa – last summer (2024) after replacing Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout.

However, Wyness believes Liverpool won’t be “short of cash” in the upcoming transfer window as they plan for the next “four or five years” with their business.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think the signings in attack will depend on who they’re going to let go.

“There are rumours involving Nunez, Jota, Diaz, Elliott – there are question marks over all of those players.

“Certainly, I think the money coming in from some of those players will swell the coffers – and that’s when the rebuild of the forward line will happen.

“I don’t think they’ll be short of cash. They’re going to shop well.

“We’ll see a very interesting window compared to last year, when they did basically nothing.

“Slot sat there and was very happy with his squad.

“Now he’s got the backing of everyone, he’s had time to evaluate the squad – and we’ll see what moves he makes.

“It could be dramatic, five or six players coming in. Slot has got to put his imprint on this squad now.

“I think they need some younger faces as Liverpool rebuild for the next four or five years.”

Liverpool could seal Cherki swoop

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (20 May) that Liverpool will have to sell one of their current forward options before considering a deal for Rayan Cherki.

Cherki, 21, and Lyon have confirmed the star winger will depart for pastures new this summer.

The Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain target made 44 appearances across all competitions this term, notching 12 goals and 20 assists.
