Liverpool news: Kieran Maguire names two things FSG do ‘spectacularly’ amid transfer claim
Fenway Sports Group deserve credit for their innovative use of data and financial prudence at Liverpool.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the merits of the Boston-based firm’s approach at Anfield.
FSG could soon be joined in the Premier League by another American ownership group as the Ricketts family is in the mix to take over at Chelsea.

Per The Athletic on Monday (28 March), the family are big admirers of the work done by FSG at Liverpool since they bought the club in 2010.
Maguire explained that Liverpool’s use of data and their break-even approach make them a good example for their possible new rivals to follow.
“I think the data-driven focus is positive,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“With the exception of a couple of years, they have made profits since FSG arrived.
“The philosophy of FSG is to break even on an operational basis and to make profits in the transfer market.
“The other key element of FSG is that they used a data-driven approach to recruitment since day one.
“Chelsea, Man United and Man City have all spent significantly more than Liverpool since the beginning of the FSG era.
“They have still competed for trophies in that time, and I think that is where FSG’s approach has really worked spectacularly.”

Liverpool beat Watford 2-0 yesterday (2 April) to briefly go top of the Premier League before Man City’s win by the same scoreline at Burnley.
The two sides face each other next Sunday (10 April).
