Liverpool set for Tyler Morton jackpot as Euro giants could provide January financial boost

Liverpool could be set to profit even further from their summer sale of Tyler Morton in the January transfer window.

The midfielder had interest from a whole host of Premier League sides prior to the start of the 2025-26 campaign, but he ultimately opted to move to France and join Lyon as the next step in his career.

Liverpool were reluctant to lose Morton at one stage in the summer, but they eventually sanctioned his departure for a fee of £15million.

The youngster was firmly on the fringes of Arne Slot’s senior group at Anfield, but the Reds could now be set to profit from his exploits once again this winter.

Liverpool to lick their lips amid Tyler Morton transfer race

Morton came through the academy ranks at Liverpool, and his move to Lyon was his first permanent step away from his boyhood club.

However, it now looks as though he could already be on the move once again in January, with interest mounting from Juventus, according to Italian outlet Tutto Juve.

The Turin-based giants are extremely keen on the starlet, but are understood to be facing competition from “several” European clubs, plus sides in the Premier League.

That development is sure to have Liverpool licking their lips and feeling as though they’ve hit the jackpot, given that they included a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement to sell him to Lyon in the summer.

The fact that there are multiple interested parties in Morton increases the chances of a bidding war breaking out between clubs, which will drive the price up further for a potential transfer, and in turn boost the amount that the Merseysiders could receive.

How much will the Reds make from Tyler Morton’s potential switch?

Harvey Elliott’s situation has caused Liverpool headaches of late, so they will surely be pleased to see another of their former youngsters progressing well in Morton.

The sell-on clause will undoubtedly have Slot and Co. keeping a keen eye on his development in the coming years, but they surely wouldn’t have expected the clause to potentially pay out just six months down the line.

Lyon are understood to currently value Morton at the £15.7m mark (€18m), meaning Liverpool would be in line to net a little over £3m if he were to be sold at that price.

However, the level of interest that is seemingly mounting in the 23-year-old could end up driving that up by a significant amount.

There may also be a hope at Anfield that a deal doesn’t go through this time around, as with the way that Morton is currently developing, that £15.7m could feel like peanuts in a few years.
