Liverpool set sights on defender signing after talks over star leaving – sources

Liverpool want to sign a new left-back as a back-up for Andrew Robertson after talks about Kostas Tsimikas’ future.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Tsimikas, 28, has attracted interest ahead of a possible transfer away from Anfield this summer.

Liverpool’s new-look recruitment team has listed cover in the full-back areas as a priority after talks about whether the Greece international could be moved on.

With full-back cover targeted, the club has also held talks with Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold about possible new contracts, as revealed by Football Insider.

Tsimikas arrived at Anfield from Olympiacos for £11.75million in 2020, agreeing to a five-year deal before a new long-term contract was signed in 2023.

The new deal is expected to last until 2027, with three years remaining as the club heads into the summer window.

Since his arrival in 2020, the left-back has provided an important role as Robertson’s understudy, making 86 appearances and helping the club to win the FA Cup and two League Cups.

Last season, Tsimikas featured just 25 times across all competitions and only 13 times in the Premier League, of which just eight came from the start.

His last start for the club came in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in December 2023.
