Liverpool set sights on Jeremie Frimpong deal – sources

Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong will be high on the list for Liverpool if Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves the club, sources have told Football Insider.

In a new twist, sources say Alexander-Arnold will only sign a new Liverpool deal if he feels the club have matched his ambition.

“The most important thing is trophies if I’m honest,” the 25-year-old told the media. “I want to win trophies, I am a player who is highly motivated by winning things and being elite.”

The right-back’s current contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Frimpong, 23, is a long-term target for Liverpool and his stock has risen following a stellar 2023-24 campaign for Leverkusen as they won a league and cup double under Xabi Alonso.

It is believed the Reds will be just one of several top English clubs in the running for his signature if he decides to leave Germany.

Liverpool could launch Frimpong swoop

The Netherlands international has already made seven appearances in the 2024-25 campaign, notching one goal and four assists.

He primarily plays as a wing-back in Alonso’s system at Leverkusen.

Frimpong is under contract until June 2028 after penning a contract extension in October 2023.

Liverpool

Liverpool have started the new campaign with four wins from five games in the Premier League and sit second in the table.

Alexander-Arnold has already racked up two goals in six appearances.
