Liverpool set sights on signing ‘sensational talent’ tipped to be ‘world’s best’ – Sources
Liverpool are actively exploring the market for a left-sided centre-back, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed that the Reds will step up their search for a new defender after looking for cover in this area last summer but stopping short of making a senior capture.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Liverpool want a new recruit to provide cover for superstar Virgil van Dijk – and potentially replace the 32-year-old in the long-term.
Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie has long been of major interest to the Reds, who have extensively scouted the 22-year-old for some time, and that has continued during his excellent displays for Xabi Alonso’s Bundesliga-topping outfit.

While major backroom changes are expected at the club following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, they also look set to lose defender Joel Matip at the end of the season when his deal expires.
