Liverpool should sign Bundesliga star Niklas Sule as a replacement for Mamadou Sakho in January.
The Reds’ centre-back is expected to leave in January after falling out of favour with Jurgen Klopp following a summer bust-up during the pre-season campaign.
The 26-year-old was a key member of the squad which reached the final of the Europa League last season under Klopp but he was sent home early from Liverpool’s tour of the US following a fall-out with the German manager.
Since then, he’s been demoted to the Under-23s squad and it’s almost certain he’ll be leaving the club in the mid-season window.
Sule would be the perfect replacement for Sakho and he could even challenge for a first-team spot next season should he fulfil his potential.
The 21-year-old has established himself in the Bundesliga and has become an important figure for Hoffenheim under new manager Julian Nagelsmann but his contract is due to expire in 2019.
According to ESPN, Sule’s agent told Bild newspaper, the centre-back turned down a move to Chelsea in the summer in favour of continuing his development but he could be persuaded by Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool’s manager has a reputation for working with young talent and he has already shown he is willing to give players an opportunity this season.
In many ways, the addition of Sule would make more sense than a mega-money pursuit of Virgil van Dijk, with Liverpool facing major competition for the Southampton player from rival clubs like Manchester City.
Sule would be a great squad addition, alongside the experienced Ragnar Klavan who made the move from Germany in the summer and under Klopp, he has the potential to become a regular first team star.
In other Liverpool news, the club should sell this striker in January and fast-track this academy star.
