Giorginio Wijnaldum’s response to an Instagram post by fellow Holland international Quincy Promes has sparked further transfer speculation about a possible January move.
Promes has been linked with a move to Liverpool and the Dutch winger posted an image of himself preparing to set off on a private jet but did not specify his destination.
Liverpool fans were quick to comment on the post and pleaded him to come to Merseyside but they weren’t the only ones as Wijnaldum also commented with a praying emoticon.
The 24-year-old is a well-known friend of Wijnaldum’s and the duo have grown up playing football together in Holland so Wijnaldum’s comment suggests he has tried to persuade Promes to join Liverpool.
The duo have trained together in the national set-up and have gone up through the age groups so there is the possibility that Wijnaldum has gleaned some first-hand transfer knowledge from Promes.
Promes is a regular first team player for Spartak Moscow and is highly rated by the Russian outfit as well as across Europe for his goal-scoring ability.
He has emerged as a potential replacement for Sadio Mane, who is set to depart in January to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.
Promes has been excellent for Massimo Carrera’s side this season and has been a crucial part of the team that has climbed to the top of the Russian Premier League.
In 14 games this season, he has already netted six goals and has provided seven assists so it’s no wonder Wijnaldum wants him to join him at Liverpool.
In other Liverpool news, Jurgen Klopp identified this as a fault in Lallana’s performance v Stoke.
