Injury expert: Elliott could be out until next season amid ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool claim

Liverpool star Harvey Elliott may still not make his comeback from injury until next season.

So says injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Elliott, who made his Liverpool first-team breakthrough at the start of the season, has been sidelined with a dislocated ankle since September.

But the first snaps of the 18-year-old midfielder back in training were published by Liverpool on 15 November.

Liverpool fans hope this means the youngest player in Premier League history is back in action soon, and certainly before the season is over.

However, Dinnery also warned Liverpool will not rush his recovery and suggested a 2022-23 return is not out of the question.

“He’s doing very well, steady away,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“I think when you see these injuries happen in real-time with different camera angles, it always appears a lot worse than it is.

“You instantly, and often wrongly, assume that it’s season over. But we have seen good examples in the past, Andre Gomes and the tackle with Son for one.

“People assumed it was season over for him but he was back playing at the back end of February. He only spent three-and-a-half months on the sidelines.

“Liverpool have an unbelievable medical department and they will know that they have to protect the player in the long-term.

“He has a very bright future ahead of him. I’ve followed his rehab very closely and everything he’s been doing is spot on, but let’s not get carried away.

“They need to take their time and make sure there is no corner-cutting. If he comes back this season, great. If not, he has a long career ahead of him.”
