Liverpool star Mo Salah reacts as Ange Postecoglou wins Tottenham title v Man United
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah took to social media after Tottenham secured a dramatic Europa League final win over Man United.
Brennan Johnson scored the only goal, albeit an extremely scrappy one, as Ange Postecoglou lived up to his claim from the start of the 2024/25 campaign as he lifted a trophy in his second season.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were instrumental in the victory on Wednesday, 21 May, creating an unbreakable bond in the centre of defence, one which the Red Devils could not get through.
Postecoglou has been under immense pressure from Tottenham fans, with Spurs still sitting 17th in the Premier League table despite the European victory, but they will all favour this moment.
With messages streaming in from all corners of the globe, Salah took to social media to congratulate the Lilywhites for their achievements away from the Premier League, lifting the club’s first major trophy in 17 years.
Tottenham beat Man United to Europa League title
Taking to X (21 May), Salah wrote: “He did say he’d win in his second season. Congratulations!”
Ange Postecoglou’s future back under discussion in North London
Football Insider verdict
Just because Spurs have lifted the Europa League trophy does not mean that Postecoglou’s future is safe in North London, with the team’s domestic form absolutely atrocious this term.
Of course, lifting silverware should buy the Australian more time to prove himself, possibly get another summer transfer window under his belt, before being judged again next season.
Manager | Games | Won | Drawn | Lost | Win % |
Ange Postecoglou | 59 | 26 | 8 | 25 | 44 |
Daniel Levy has some difficult decisions to make this summer, and so too does Sir Jim Ratcliffe over Ruben Amorim’s future, but the fans will just want to live in the moment for now.
Postecoglou has proven his ability to win trophies, and with injuries plaguing the squad this season, it would be interesting to see how next season goes with a restocked team.
The former Celtic figure needs to be backed during the summer transfer window, especially after the magical night in Bilbao, and the Spurs owner no longer has a reason not to support the manager.
