Liverpool star ‘put in danger’ by horror tackle – Keith Hackett stunned by ‘red’
Keith Hackett believes that Southampton’s Adam Lallana should have been shown a straight red card for his late challenge on Ryan Gravenberch against Liverpool this past Sunday (24 November).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former PGMOL chief, ex-FIFA, and Premier League referee believes that the tackle should have been seen as “endangering the safety of an opponent.”
The former Reds midfielder lost the ball due to a poor touch and lunged in with a clear stoods-up challenge on Gravenberch to try and get the ball back.
The 36-year-old ended up receiving a yellow card from the challenge and VAR opted not to intervene in the situation as Southampton were able to keep 11 men on the pitch.
The Saints midfielder was ultimately forced off the pitch in the first half due to injury, but Liverpool fans and Hackett believe that should have happened earlier and reduced Southampton to 10 men in the process.
Southampton ended up losing the game at St. Mary’s Stadium 3-2 after a second-half Mohamed Salah brace brought Liverpool back from 2-1 down to take all three points.
Adam Lallana should have been sent off against Liverpool
Hackett told Football Insider, “This is a red card every day for me.
“I cannot understand why the referees don’t see that as endangering the safety of an opponent.
“There was a game in Scotland where something similar happened and the referee had no hesitation sending the player off.

“Yet here we are in England allowing that to happen.
“Lallana should have gone, there’s no doubt about it.”
