Liverpool 24-year-old reveals truth behind super-sub appearance v Stoke
By Danny Wright
Philippe Coutinho has revealed that he was told to stay at home by Liverpool’s medical staff ahead of their visit to Stoke on Saturday.
The 24-year-old came off the bench at half time to score his side’s first goal as the Reds came from behind to win 2-1, justifying his choice to ignore the doctors’ orders.
According to the Sun, Simon Mignolet has said that the Brazilian star lost three kilos after he picked up a gastric virus on international duty.
Coutinho has now found the back of the net in his last three appearances and is one of the key men in Liverpool’s bid to achieve qualification to next season’s Champions League.
“They had asked me to stay at home because I was not feeling well but I wanted to be there,” he said, as quoted by the Sun.

“I wanted to be involved and the manager decided, although I was not 100 per cent.”
The result against Stoke turned out to be a vital one as Manchester City would have leapfrogged Liverpool into third place if they lost.
Manchester United bagged three points on Sunday to keep themselves within touching distance of the Reds with their two games in hand while Arsenal face Crystal Palace on Monday.
Coutinho’s leveller against Stoke was his tenth goal of the season across all competitions – it also saw him become the Premier League’s top Brazilian goal scorer.
He’s also had his hand in eight assists in 30 appearances for the Reds.
The ex-Inter Milan attacker began the season well but a month-long set-back in the winter saw his form dip once he returned to action in January.
However the winter blues appear to be over for Coutinho who appears to be back to his best.
