Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara could now agree Saudi move – sources

Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara is set to leave Anfield at the end of the season and could head straight to Saudi Arabia, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that a move to the Saudi Pro League is his most likely destination, where he could become the next marquee signing.

O’Rourke noted that a return to Spain is also a possibility for the 33-year-old, who will see his Reds contract expire this summer.

But a switch to Saudi is more likely given how it is not as fast-paced as other leagues, with no top European clubs interested in his signature anyway.

Liverpool star set for Anfield exit on free transfer

The midfielder has been limited to just five minutes in all competitions this season due to various injury struggles.

Such struggles have plagued his time at Anfield since his move from Bayern Munich in 2020, with Thiago making 98 appearances for the Reds.

An exit is now on the cards, with sources telling Football Insider on Wednesday (17 April) that he has already asked his agent to find him a new club this summer.

O’Rourke told Football Insider that Thiago has proven he is world-class when fit, but he and Liverpool fans will be ultimately disappointed with his spell at the club given his injury problems.

After picking up an injury at the back end of last season, the Reds had been hoping that the player would have been fit to help out in the second half of the current campaign.

A brief cameo against Arsenal in February suggested that was possible, but the 33-year-old has not been seen on the pitch since.

And O’Rourke believes that with manager Jurgen Klopp leaving, a Thiago exit on a free transfer is looking more and more likely.

The midfielder’s options in the summer transfer window may, however, be limited, with interested clubs set to have concerns over his injury record, even when he will arrive on a free.
