Kenny: Salah will sign new ‘big-money’ Liverpool deal by this date after Echo report

Liverpool and Mohamed Salah are both keen to extend their relationship – and a new contract could be signed by January.

That is the view of ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 29-year-old Egyptian superstar.

The Liverpool Echo reported on 5 September that negotiations with Salah over a new long-term deal are ongoing.

Salah has three years remaining on his Liverpool contract and last signed an extension back in July 2018.

Jordan Henderson, Alisson Becker, Harvey Elliot, Andy Robertson, Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk have signed new deals in 2021.

And Kenny predicts that Salah could be the next star to extend his stay at Anfield.

“You want to get all your best players under long contracts,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“We’ve seen what happens when contracts run out and you end up losing them on a free. Look at Wijnaldum.

“It will be something Liverpool will be looking to get done as soon as possible, maybe before the next transfer window.

“It’s like a new signing when you get a player that good tied down for three or four years.

I’m sure Salah will want to get it sorted as soon as possible too because he will be on big money.”

Salah has started the season in characteristically brilliant form.

The attacker has netted two goals and supplied two assists in three league matches so far.
