Liverpool stars react as Harvey Elliott sends emotional message ahead of Aston Villa debut
Harvey Elliott’s new message has been reacted to by a number of Liverpool players as he prepares for his Aston Villa bow following a deadline day move.
Harvey Elliott struggled to make an impact last term during Liverpool’s Premier League title charge, and rumours around his exit were rife this summer with numerous clubs vying to land his services.
Former scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in July that Newcastle and Tottenham had both joined the race to sign Elliott this summer, amid previous interest from Fulham and Brighton, and an exit looked increasingly likely toward the end of the window as Liverpool brought in numerous attacking players.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (1 September) morning that Aston Villa had opened talks to sign Elliott after RB Leipzig had stalled in negotiations for his services, and the deal progressed over the following hours.
Liverpool officially confirmed Elliott’s exit to Aston Villa on deadline day, with a season-long loan move agreed between the two sides and a £35million obligation-to-buy clause inserted into the move [Sky Sports], and he has now sent a heartfelt message online as he prepares to debut at his new club.

Elliott took to Instagram on Thursday (11 September) to share a message to Villa fans in anticipation of his potential debut this weekend against Everton, saying: “Working towards the weekend. Looking forward to seeing you soon Villans!”
The 22-year-old’s message drew reactions from a number of his former teammates, as Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha and Wataru Endo all left likes.
New teammate and England international Morgan Rogers replied saying: “We readyyyyy,” while Tyler Morton, who also departed the Reds this summer to join Lyon, replied to his post to say: “Numberrrrr 9” in a nod to attacking midfielder Elliott’s unusual new squad number at Villa Park.
Harvey Elliott should succeed at Aston Villa if he is given ample game-time
Football Insider revealed in April that Elliott’s priority was to remain at Liverpool ahead of next season, but he has been frustrated with his lack of action at the club, so a move has now been sanctioned as he aims to further his own career while the Reds spend big in search of more success.
While his time at Liverpool was one of huge success in terms of trophies, he struggled to play a major role in many of their six triumphs after he joined the club in 2019 from Fulham, and so had to join a club that is set to give him a better guarantee of minutes this summer.

Villa certainly seem destined to do just that, given their already thin squad and upcoming Europa League campaign, and the two parties seem like a match made in heaven as long as Unai Emery can find a place for the 22-year-old in his starting eleven.
Elliott will want to prove his quality as a regular starter in the top-flight after spending so long on the bench at Anfield, and getting into the senior England squad will also almost certainly be in his sights after he shone at the Under-21 European Championships during the summer.
