Liverpool superstar left ‘in tears’ at Luis Diaz’s emotional farewell

Luis Diaz will “treasure” his three-year spell at Liverpool after completing a £65million move to Bayern Munich – and has left one of his superstar former teammates “in tears” at his goodbye message.

Liverpool‘s frontline could be unrecognisable when their Premier League title defence begins against Bournemouth next month, with over £250m exchanged in incoming and outgoing transfers this summer.

Those incomings have seen Florian Wirtz arrive for a club-record £100m fee which could rise to £116.5m in add-ons, as well as the signing of Hugo Ekitike for £69m-plus and the prospect of further additions.

Alexander Isak’s attempts to force a move from Newcastle United to Liverpool could end up costing over £150m in total, but Liverpool have taken a step towards funding that transfer fee with the sale of Diaz.

Football Insider revealed that Liverpool had rejected a £59m bid for Diaz from Bayern Munich five days ago, but the German giants have increased that fee to agree and now complete the Colombian’s signing.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister react to Luiz Diaz’s message

Bayern upped their bid for Diaz to an “incredible” £65m, and this proved too good for Liverpool to turn down as they look to raise funds for their record-breaking pursuit of want-away Newcastle striker Isak.

Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Diaz’s £65m move is a “brilliant” outcome for Liverpool and a massive profit on the fee they paid Porto in January 2022, as Bayern completed the transfer on Tuesday.

After Bayern announced Diaz’s signing on 30 July, the Colombian posted on Instagram with a message to Liverpool fans, highlighting the bond he’d felt with his team-mates and Diogo Jota in particular.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister were two of several Liverpool superstars to leave comments for Diaz, and the latter said; “I dropped another tear”, after seeing his South American compatriot leave the club.

Liverpool to accelerate Isak chase after Diaz’s departure

Football Insider Verdict

Wirtz and Ekitike’s arrivals may have bolstered Slot’s frontline, but the sale of Diaz and particularly the tragic passing of Jota this summer will leave boots that are impossible to fill at Anfield next season.

Liverpool are hopeful that Isak can be the player to take Slot’s title-winning side to the next level, and Diaz’s departure is the first of three planned exits for Liverpool to fund the Swede’s £130m transfer fee.

Wirtz and Ekitike have already given Slot an embarrassment of riches going into the new campaign, but expect Liverpool to throw everything they’ve got at Isak in a bid to succeed Diaz as their go-to option on the left and up front.
