Finance guru: Liverpool destiny now all but confirmed as FSG ready to ‘tie up’ new takeover
Fenway Sports Group’s interest in purchasing an overseas football club suggests they are only looking for minority investment in Liverpool.
That is the view of finance guru Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about how the acquisition of a new club by the American conglomerate would affect any potential sale of Liverpool.
FSG announced back in November that they were open to external investment, leading to reports of a full takeover being on the cards.

But a source told Football Insider last week (21 December) that FSG have not yet abandoned plans to launch a multi-club network with the Reds at the helm.
The Liverpool ECHO (6 December) reported that FSG are leaning towards a partial sale of the club rather than a full takeover and that the Boston-based group is keen to retain their majority ownership.
Plumley echoes that opinion, suggesting that FSG are in fact eager to expand their multi-club ownership and use Liverpool as the “flagship”.
“I think it stacks up with where my thinking has been on this all along. I think they’re wanting to keep hold of Liverpool in that regard,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“I think something like this would suggest that they’re looking for a partial sale and investment to support the Liverpool project but they don’t want to pull themselves away from it entirely.
“If they’re looking at buying another club, and we know they already have the multi-sport, multi-club ownership model because they have the [Boston] Red Sox and the NHL franchise [Pittsburgh Penguins].

“Unless it’s a huge football club – which we assume it’s not – then we’re looking at Liverpool still being the flagship operation on the football side of things.
“If that is the case then that would suggest to me that they’re still after being involved in Liverpool which ties up with that minority sale and a partial sale rather than a full takeover.”
