Liverpool tipped for major tactical change as ‘amazing’ new details emerge – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Jurgen Klopp may have used their extended break from action to “tweak” his Liverpool game plan after a tough start to the new campaign.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Reds’ impromptu break will have done “the world of good”.

Liverpool will have gone almost a month without a Premier League game by the time they take to the pitch against Brighton on Saturday (1 October).

Klopp‘s side were last in action against Ajax in the Champions League on 13 September with back-to-back fixtures against Wolves and Chelsea postponed.

The Merseysiders played 63 games across all competitions last season, reaching the finals of three cups and running champions Man City close in the Premier League.

Liverpool have endured a mixed start to the season, picking up just nine points from their first six league games – Klopp’s worst-ever start in seven seasons at Anfield.

When asked if the break will have helped the Reds take stock and reset after a tough start, Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think it has.

“It’s not been the most amazing start for Liverpool. So this time with the players who aren’t internationals, working on the training ground – it’ll have done the world of good.

“Most of their players will be away with their national sides, but it’ll still be a positive boost to be in a different environment.

“It has been a chance for Jurgen Klopp to tweak his game plan and work on certain aspects which haven’t been working for them this season.”

Liverpool also return to Champions League action next week as they host Rangers on Tuesday (4 October).

They have picked up three points from two matches in Europe so far.
