Liverpool tipped to sign Henderson replacement in ‘huge’ £60m-plus deal – Phillips

Liverpool could replace Jordan Henderson with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, according to Kevin Phillips.

The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted capturing the 18-year-old would be a “major coup” for the Anfield club.

As reported by the Mirror (7 December), Liverpool lead the race to sign Bellingham ahead of a potential move next summer.

The report also claims manager Jurgen Klopp has not been deterred by his old club’s asking price – thought to be around £90million.

Phillips insisted Liverpool have got “one eye on a replacement for Henderson” as they consider a bid for the former Birmingham youngster.

“He’s developed into a top-class player already at Dortmund,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“I think that link is with one eye on a replacement for Jordan Henderson. You wouldn’t say his career is winding down just yet, but you can almost see how he would fit into place.

“How much would he cost? Who knows? You’re probably talking at least £60million.

“He’s such a talent, and he can develop even further at Liverpool – as every player does under Jurgen Klopp.

“It would be a huge coup for them if they can get that one done next summer.”

Bellingham has made 13 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring two goals and contributing five assists.
