Liverpool tipped to sign next 'Wijnaldum' in January after confirmed news - pundit
Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Liverpool to sign a ready-made midfielder in January after Harvey Elliott’s injury.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England ace insisted Liverpool still need to replace Gini Wijnaldum after his summer exit.
Elliott suffered a dislocated ankle after a challenge from Pascal Struijk of Leeds United at the weekend.
The club confirmed yesterday (September 14) he had undergone successful surgery and they expect him to feature again this season.
The teenager was set to enjoy a breakout campaign for Liverpool after starting three of their opening four Premier League games.
Asked whether the Anfield club made a mistake not signing a midfielder over the summer, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.

“Harvey Elliott’s a great player but he’s 18-years-old. If he stayed fit, he was going to have inconsistencies, he’s not Wijnaldum with his legs getting up and down the pitch.
“Elliott was a good player and added competition to the starting XI. But when you’ve got games against big clubs like Man City, Chelsea and Man United you’re going to need a Wijnaldum-type player. Not signing one could come back to hurt them.
“Naby Keita’s not the man for the job. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, for me, is not the man. I think definitely they’ll be looking in January to bring in another midfielder, the next Wijnaldum, really.”
Wijnaldum moved to Paris Saint-Germain over the summer after his Liverpool contract expired.
During the transfer window, the Reds only added Ibrahima Konate to the squad that finished third in the Premier League last term.
