Liverpool to agree landmark deal soon – Salah, Van Dijk, Trent updates
Liverpool are expected to agree to a new contract with Ibrahima Konate amid growing speculation about Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected within the game, questioned why more information is emerging about Ibrahima Konate’s contract talks compared to his teammates.
Speculation has been rife about their futures at Anfield, and Konate’s proposed new deal has only ramped up the pressure to make progress in their other contract talks.
All three star men are out of contract at the end of the season and as things stand will be free to discuss a move abroad from January onwards.
Salah, 32, has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but Football Insider revealed the Reds are “desperate” to tie him down to a new deal.
Football Insider also revealed that Van Dijk, 33, is keen to remain at Liverpool despite no developments having been reached in contract talks.
Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, has less certainty surrounding his future at Anfield with constant speculation about his potential exit.
While the Reds are keen to keep him, the 26-year-old has been heavily linked to Real Madrid, with Dani Carvajal’s long-term injury increasing Los Blancos’ desperation to improve in his position.
Robinson has raised questions about why the trio were allowed to run into the final year of their contracts, insisting the development “worries” him.
Liverpool under pressure to complete contract talks after Ibrahima Konate development
Liverpool remain keen to tie down all of their star players to new contracts and solidify their futures at the club, but the longer they go without deals being agreed, the closer they come to leaving.
Robinson has admitted the club are in a “strange” situation, and while he doesn’t feel Konate’s deal has been prioritised, he has suggested the progress hints at a lack of movement elsewhere.
“I don’t think Konate has been put in front of the others,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s shown his importance to the team so far this season, but I don’t think this deal has been prioritised ahead of anybody else.
“I think the question will have been put to Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold.
“The thing that worries me from a Liverpool point of view is that they very rarely let players run into the last year of their deal – at least in recent history.
“It’s very, very strange that they’ve got into this situation with these players.

“You wonder why you’re not hearing that talks are underway when we are hearing about the other players like they are with Konate.
“The other three, you wonder whether those conversations are even taking place.
“You’d expect that they have, but maybe they haven’t gone quite as well as Konate’s.”
