‘Liverpool to agree Marc Guehi move – this is the best deal I’ve seen in a long time’

Liverpool have been tipped to agree a bargain deal to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi this summer.

The defender has one year left on his Eagles contract, meaning that Steve Parish may be forced to cash in now rather than risk losing him on a free in 12 months time.

Guehi has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool after an impressive season for Oliver Glasner’s side, in which they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

The England international could be a replacement for current Reds centre-back Ibrahima Konate, who also only has a year left on his deal and is rumoured to be leaving Anfield this summer.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Palace want to sell Guehi in the current window.

‘Liverpool will secure Guehi for £40m’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed that he thinks Guehi will be sold for £40million this summer.

The Palace captain was the subject of heavy interest from Newcastle last year, but the Magpies failed to land the defender.

Wyness added that if the move were to go through, it would be “the cheapest deal” he had seen in a long time.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Palace would prefer to sell Geuhi and the talks are going on, but there’s also that threat of him staying for another season and running his contract down.

“The clubs who are trying to buy him are using that as leverage on Palace and saying, look, we’re offering you £30m-£35m right now, take it or leave it, or else you’re going to get nothing next year.

“He’s worth more than that and everybody knows it but the fact is we’re in this situation where he may go for nothing next year. So I think Palace will realise that, I think they’ll take the money, but I think he’ll go for about 40 million, which is the cheapest deal I’ve seen for long time.

“He’s very high quality player. I rate him highly. If Liverpool are the ones that get him, and they are still favourites, I think they’ll have a great partnership at the back.

“There is a market for Guehi, and I think Palace will accept the money and he will go.”

Liverpool’s updated Harvey Elliott asking price revealed

Meanwhile, sources have told Football Insider that Liverpool will sell Harvey Elliott if they receive a bid of £40million this summer.

The 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, and is expected to depart in an attempt to kickstart his career.

A number of top German clubs have now joined Premier League clubs in the race, with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig keeping tabs on the situation.

Elliott started just two Premier League games for Arne Slot’s side last season, and both came after the Reds had already wrapped up the title.
