Liverpool to end Florian Wirtz saga with new bid – ‘this is the magic number’
Liverpool’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen superstar Florian Wirtz is becoming an early-window transfer saga as the Reds look to get a deal over the line.
It has been widely reported that the Merseysiders have seen their latest bid of around £109million turned down by the German club.
Wirtz, 22, is reportedly valued at £125million – which would make him the most expensive player in English football history.
He notched 31 goal contributions in 45 games for Leverkusen in the 2024-25 campaign.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed he expects Liverpool to pay the “magic number” to beat their rivals to a deal.
Liverpool will cave to Leverkusen’s demands, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he expects Liverpool to meet Wirtz’s valuation and end the saga.
Leverkusen are in a strong position with the playmaker under contract at the club until June 2027.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “This Wirtz saga is interesting.
“I’ve seen talk about Harvey Elliott as part of the package. I’m surprised it hasn’t closed.
“I thought Liverpool would have had it done with the second offer, I didn’t think it would go to a third or fourth.
“Maybe there’s something shaky going on. There’s no shortage of suitors and Wirtz is a really high-quality player.
“I think Liverpool will end up paying what Leverkusen want.
“I think there’s still a bit of arm-wrestling to do, but they’ll end up paying closer to £130million.
“That’ll be around the magic number to get things done.”

Elliot expected to join Serie A club
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (4 June) that Harvey Elliott is most likely to join a Serie A club if he leaves Liverpool this summer.
The midfielder rejected a potential move to Nottingham Forest last week, but sources suggest there is a growing likelihood he will exit Anfield over the coming months.
Clubs in Germany’s Bundesliga are also understood to be monitoring the left-footed star’s situation.
