Liverpool to land stunning ‘£300m’ windfall – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Liverpool will bank £300million in commercial revenue for the upcoming season.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Reds have achieved that figure by “milking” fans, after speaking to friends who support the Anfield club.

Liverpool took in commercial revenues of £272.5million in the 2022-23 financial year, £25million higher than the previous season.

The Reds have recently announced on Tuesday (25 June) that they have agreed a “global, multi-year partnership” with Japan Airlines to become their official partner.

Man City brought in the most commercial revenue in the 2022-23 campaign (£341million), with Liverpool in third behind Man United (£303million) in the ranking of Premier League clubs.

Liverpool are ‘milking’ fans after £300m claim from Wyness

Wyness claimed the Reds and owners Fenway Sports Group must be more “sensitive” to fans after previous clashes over pricing.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Liverpool have got their act together and I think they’ll be looking at commercial revenue of over £300million now.

“It’s a great platform to kick on from.

“But I’ve got a lot of friends who are Liverpool fans and they’re complaining about being milked by the present administration.

“They’re feeling the stadium experience is designed that way, and things keep going up and up without any returns in terms of service.

“That’s the reality if they’re getting the revenue up to £300m, someone will have to pay for that.

“Fenway Sports Group have had a few run-ins with fan groups about ticket prices. Hopefully, they’ve learned, and they are more sensitive now.

“It’s a difficult balance.

“I think they should be more sponsorship-driven, and more clever in the division of assets internationally.

“That’s the key way forward for Liverpool.”
