Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool to offer Philippe Coutinho a new contract, according to a report.

The Sunday People claim the Anfield manager wants the club to tie one of his star players down to an improved deal.

It is said that Brazil playmaker Coutinho has caught the eye of bosses at Barcelona after maintaining his impressive form of last season in the new campaign.

The 24-year-old, who started for Brazil in their 5-0 demolition of Bolivia on Thursday night, is currently one of the hottest players in the Premier League.

Coutinho began the campaign with a stunning free-kick against Arsenal and he has maintained that eye-catching form to score a total of four goals, supplemented by three assists, in all competitions.

Coutinho signed a contract 18 months ago that runs until 2020 and is worth £70,000-a-week, according to the Daily Star.

The Sunday People report that manager Klopp is keen for the team’s key players to be tied down to a similarly long-term agreement as himself in order to fend off interest from other clubs.

The German has pledged his future to Liverpool until 2022, and he wants to see the club’s key players similarly rewarded.

Liverpool are wary of losing Portugese-speaking Coutinho to one of the Spanish giants after selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £70million two years ago.
