Liverpool fans have called on the club to sign Adam Wharton following a fresh update on his future.

Wharton has been a standout performer for Crystal Palace since arriving from Blackburn in January, quickly establishing himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in the league.

His impressive form hasn’t gone unnoticed, with former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown telling Football Insider that Manchester City are currently leading the race for Wharton‘s signature.

Palace are set to face Man City in the FA Cup final on 17 May, a fixture that could serve as a close-up audition for Wharton in front of Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff.

City have struggled in midfield this season, particularly following Rodri’s long-term injury setback in September. January signing Nico Gonzalez has yet to make a significant impact, and Wharton is now being viewed as a potential long-term solution.

Despite City’s long-standing interest, an update has revealed Liverpool may also enter the race, setting the stage for a potential transfer battle this summer.

Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail has reported that Liverpool are “monitoring” Wharton’s situation closely amid interest from both Man City and Real Madrid. He also added that the Palace midfielder would likely cost around £60 million.

The 21-year-old has drawn attention from Europe’s elite clubs thanks to his performances under Oliver Glasner. Wharton has made 20 appearances this season, registering two assists and winning 64 duels, showing his effectiveness in and out of possession.

Football Insider revealed that Crystal Palace are keen to keep hold of Wharton, but with Glasner expected to reshape the squad this summer, the club may need to sanction a major sale to raise funds.

The Reds are expected to prioritise a midfielder this summer, and Football Insider reported that Liverpool are also interested in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.

However, the Seagulls’ £100 million asking price could push them towards more affordable targets.

Wharton is seen as an option, especially if Palace are open to accepting £60m as that figure could prove far more realistic in the current market.

After Liverpool missed out on Martin Zubimendi last summer, the defensive midfield role remains an area in need of reinforcement. Fans have been vocal about their desire to see Wharton brought in.
