Liverpool to 'win the lot' after 'devastating' development - expert

Alex McLeish has tipped Liverpool to complete the quadruple after Manchester City’s “devastating” defeat to Real Madrid.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the City squad may be suffering “mentally” after the dramatic 3-1 loss in Spain.

Two last-minute goals from Rodrygo took Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final tie into extra time before Karim Benzema netted the winner from the penalty spot.

Liverpool meanwhile reached the final with a 5-2 aggregate win over Villareal.

With the Reds one point behind City in the Premier League title race, McLeish insisted the “smart money” is on Pep Guardiola’s men slipping up.

Asked if he thought Tuesday’s loss could impact City’s Premier League title push, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “That will be the number one question.

“The scrutiny will be on them to see if they can handle that mentally.

“The smart money, for me, is on Liverpool to win the lot, given that devastating result for City on Tuesday.

“I said Pep won’t sleep but the players care enormously as well, I’m sure. Especially a team at that level, they will be devastated.

“Whether they can just brush it off the shoulder and carry on? Phwoar, I don’t know. There could be a reaction.”

The Premier League is the only trophy City can win this season.

They were beaten by West Ham in the League Cup, which Liverpool won, and the Reds in the FA Cup.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will face Chelsea in the FA Cup final, a repeat of this season’s League Cup final.
