Liverpool told to pull the plug on signing Premier League star who’s ‘a joy to play with’
Liverpool have been told not to prioritise the signing of one Premier League star despite the high praise he has been receiving.
Arne Slot won the Premier League title in his first season in charge at Liverpool, and spent heavily in the summer in a bid to retain the crown.
Liverpool’s 2-1 loss at Chelsea though means that the Reds are a point behind league leaders Arsenal during the international break.
Slot suffered a blow on international duty when Ryan Gravenberch picked up a hamstring injury for the Netherlands after centre-back Ibrahima Konate withdrew from the France squad.

Adam Wharton not a priority for Liverpool
Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton is attracting interest from Liverpool amid the 21-year-old’s fine form for the Eagles.
However, former Reds midfielder Danny Murphy, as per the Metro [13 October] doesn’t think Wharton is a priority for Slot.
“Well, I like him. I think he’s a lovely footballer. The game comes easy to him. And I understand why lots of people would be interested in him,” Murphy said.

“I think at the moment, Liverpool are quite well covered. McAllister is a playmaker, Gravenberch can do it, Curtis Jones is in there and he’s not starting everything, Szobozslai can play in there.
“Endo’s on the bench; he’s a more tenacious, gritty, holding midfielder.
“I would think the priority for Liverpool is at centre back. That’s obviously the one area people are concerned about.
“Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think there’s a Liverpool fan around who would be upset if Wharton joined us. But I’m not sure that at the moment, that’s the priority for Liverpool.“
Liverpool’s midfield is one of the strongest in the Premier League, and amid their lack of depth, Slot should be targeting a centre-back in the next transfer window.
Wharton is ‘a joy to play with’
On international duty with England in 2024, former Crystal Palace team mate Eberechi Eze called Wharton “a joy to play with.“
“He’s an incredible player to play with,” Eze told BBC Sport.
“Playing with him at Palace, I’ve got used to seeing the way he plays and understanding him. He’s very calm, composed, and a joy to play with.
“For someone so young, he’s very mature and very wise. When you speak to him, it feels like you’re speaking to someone older than you, that’s the type of person he is. He’s an incredible player.”
