Liverpool told to activate ‘release clause’ to appoint new first-choice manager – Kieran Maguire

Release clauses in manager contracts are now “a part of football” as Liverpool face a £25million fee to hire top-choice Ruben Amorim.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that non-elite clubs are being “smarter” by inserting clauses in managerial contracts.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed last week (26 March) that Liverpool face a £25million release clause (€30million) if they want to appoint Amorim this summer.

The Sporting Lisbon manager is in high demand after leading the Portuguese club to league success.

As revealed by Football Insider, Amorim is now the favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp as Reds manager this summer after they were dealt a blow in their pursuit of Xabi Alonso.

Maguire explained that manager release fees have risen substantially in recent years and will continue to do so now that they are a part of football.

The non-elite clubs are being more and more clever when it comes to their managerial recruitment,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

They are inserting smart release fees into the contracts of coaches who have done so well for them.

Man United

This is what we are seeing with Ruben Amorim and I expect to see this being part of football going forwards.

Previously, it was Steve Bruce going from Sheffield Wednesday to Newcastle, Graham Potter going from Swansea to Brighton and then from Brighton to Chelsea, and over time we have seen the numbers rise substantially.
