Liverpool told to complete £40m+ Cody Gakpo deal after source’s update today – pundit
Frank McAvennie has told Liverpool to sign Jude Bellingham and Cody Gakpo.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted Bellingham would be a better signing than Gakpo but suggested the Reds could attempt to bring both to Anfield.
According to Dutch outlet Voetbal International (29 November), the Merseysiders are set to enter talks with Gakpo’s representatives.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are said to be willing to pay upwards of £40million for the 23-year-old whose PSV Eindhoven contract expires in 2026.
On 27 November, sources told this site that the Merseysiders have set their sights on signing two new midfielders next year, with Bellingham a top target.
The latest from a Liverpool source on Monday is that Bellingham remains a prime target for them, while Man United are in pole position to land Gakpo.
When asked if the Reds will be looking at Gakpo as a potential alternative to Bellingham, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Liverpool might try and get the two of them.
“Bellingham will be their number one and then they will be looking at who they can get if they do not get him.
“He [Gakpo] has not really played out his skin. He has scored three goals. When Bellingham plays he pulls the team along, you can tell that he shines every game. Gakpo is just scoring goals.

“There is nothing wrong with that but I do not think he has the same influence as Bellingham. He is only 19, he has got a presence about him. He is going to be a great wherever he goes.
“I have watched quite a bit of the Netherlands and Gakpo does not dictate the game.“
