Liverpool told to pull plug on James Ward-Prowse deal – Agbonlahor
Liverpool should avoid signing England international James Ward-Prowse.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that Ward Prowse does not suit the Reds style of play and Jurgen Klopp should look elsewhere.
James Ward-Prowse is taking time out before his Southampton future is resolved, sources have told Football Insider.
Ward-Prowse’s contract at St Mary’s runs until 2026 after signing an extension back in 2021 but is set to depart this summer following their demotion to the second division.
Football Insider first revealed Tottenham’s interest in the England international in March and the London club have been monitoring Ward-Prowse’s situation for some time as they plot a move this summer.
The 28-year-old had made 45 appearances for the Saints across all competitions and scored 11 goals and provided five assists in what turned out to be an uninspiring campaign from the club as they were relegated from the top division after a 10-year stay.
With a potential move on the cards, Agbonlahor doesn’t think that it would be a transfer that works.
“He doesn’t suit Liverpool’s midfield,” He told Football Insider.
“Liverpool like high-intensity pressing midfielders, and even MacAllister, I don’t think he is the player that presses the most.

“That means they will need another body in there with legs who can press, as that is what Liverpool likes.
“I don’t think’ Ward-Prowse can do that, so he doesn’t suit Liverpool at all.”
