Liverpool told to sign ‘new Diogo Jota’ after source’s reveal – Whelan

Noel Whelan has urged Liverpool to replace Divock Origi with Watford winger Ismaila Sarr this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted the Hornets’ 24-year-old could be the Reds’ new Diogo Jota.

Speaking to Afrique Sports on Tuesday (22 March), Sarr’s agent Thierno Seydi suggested the Watford star “will have chances to leave” Vicarage Road this summer “regardless of what happens” in the relegation fight.

The Liverpool Echo claim (24 March) Liverpool could reignite their interest in Sarr after long-term interest.

As revealed by Football Insider (23 March), the Reds are set to lose Divock Origi on a free transfer, with three offers on the table.

Whelan suggested Sarr could replace the 26-year-old and have a similar impact to Jota.

“It is not the first time someone has looked at him,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“I’ve watched him on many, many occasions. He is a standout for Watford.

“If they go down, it makes the transition very quick and very easy because Watford will need to recoup some money. They’ll have to think differently about the players that they keep.

“There’s no doubt Liverpool do their due diligence very, very well. Look at Jota, they don’t just go out there and buy willy nilly players for the sake of it.

“They buy players that can fit straight into their system very quickly. They fit the expectations from Jurgen Klopp and the style Liverpool show on the field.

“He’s one that brings energy, he’s very good on the ball, he’s quick. He’d be great across that front three as well, just like Jota.

“Divock Origi played on the left and right-hand side at times. They could utilise Sarr the same. He would be a younger and fresher face in the squad.”

In other news, Liverpool could be without a key player for ‘eight weeks’ in a ‘huge blow’.
