Liverpool told to sign ‘replacement’ for James Milner and teammate after what pundit has seen

Frank McAvennie has claimed Liverpool must “replace” James Milner and Jordan Henderson at the end of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker suggested the English duo are no longer at the required level to start every week for the Reds

Henderson, 32, still has three years left on his contract with the Merseyside club.

Milner, 36, has entered the final 12 months of his Anfield contract after signing a one-year extension in the summer.

The midfielder has made 15 appearances for the Reds so far this season.

Milner started the 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at right-back in place of recovering Trent Alexander-Arnold.

When asked if Milner is likely to be offered another extension, McAvennie told Football Insider: “No.

He is an odd-job man now. It is a young man’s game now. It is so quick. What a wonderful talent he was. But him and Henderson have to be replaced at the end of the season.

They have been great servants. If they could keep them on at the club in some capacity, it would be great to see that.

I cannot see Milner wanting to go down the leagues and play. I would not think he would want to do that at the end of his career.

Milner made 39 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side across all competitions last season.

Henderson played 57 times for the Reds last term, scoring three goals and providing seven assists.
