Liverpool told to U-turn on signing Kylian Mbappe after ‘huge’ update – pundit
Kevin Campbell has told Liverpool to “concentrate on the midfield” amid Kylian Mbappe interest.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League striker said the Reds will struggle to match Real Madrid financially in a bid to sign Mbappe.
Speaking to CBS Sports (11 October), French journalist Julien Laurens said the 23-year-old is going to push to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January.
Mbappe’s current PSG contract expires in 2025.
Laurens added that the striker “really liked” Liverpool but insisted they are unlikely to be able to afford him.
In the summer, Mbappe told the Telegraph (23 May) that he spoke to Jurgen Klopp in the summer about a potential move because it is his mum’s favourite club.
Campbell said Klopp’s side will struggle to compete with the likes of Madrid.
“Of course he [Klopp] would be interested,” he told Football Insider. “Whether they could do the numbers now I do not know. I doubt it very much.
“The numbers are huge that come with Kylian Mbappe. Having just spent £85m on [Darwin] Nunez, [Diogo] Jota is there, [Luis] Diaz.
“[Mohamed] Salah has just got a big new contract. You have got experienced players on big wages. It might be a bit too much.
“Real Madrid are going to offer a king’s ransom. They are not going to mess around.“

“The numbers are going to be huge and I do not know whether Liverpool can actually afford it.
“I think Liverpool need to concentrate on the midfield.“
