Liverpool turn attention to signing two Sporting Lisbon stars – sources

Liverpool want to sign Sporting Lisbon duo Goncalo Inacio and Ousmane Diomande this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the former is a player the club admires, with the latter on their radar ahead of the new season.

Inacio, 22, and Diomande, 20, have been regulars at the back for Sporting, often playing in a back three alongside former Liverpool man Sebastian Coates.

The Portuguese outfit have relied heavily upon their star defenders as they close in on the league title this season, with a double on the cards given their upcoming cup final clash with Porto at the end of the season.

Liverpool want to bring two Sporting stars to Anfield this summer

The Reds should be confident of snapping up at least one of the Sporting stars this summer should they recruit Ruben Amorim as their new manager.

Sources told Football Insider last month that the 39-year-old is the favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout.

Football Insider also understands that one of his star men, Inacio, can be signed by the Reds for £40million this summer.

Having starred for Sporting, the centre-back also has six caps for the Portugal national team, while his defensive partner Diomande boasts four Ivory Coast caps.

Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate have been heavily relied upon by Jurgen Klopp in central defence this season amid the absence of the injured Joel Matip, with Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez also getting minutes in that area for the Reds.
