‘Liverpool want to tie down Mohamed Salah’ in ‘huge’ update today – Insider

Mohamed Salah wants to stay at Liverpool despite the ongoing speculation and public outbursts about his contract situation at Anfield.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the longer the issue drags on, the more uncertain his future becomes.

Salah, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season as things stand and has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, although Liverpool remain desperate to commit him to new terms.

He has been outspoken about the situation at Anfield as he explained no offer of a new deal has been made as things stand, stating he is “more out than in”.

Most recently, following the 2-0 win against Man City on 1 December, the winger hinted that the decision may not be made until the end of the season as he confessed: “This is, up until now, the last City game I will play for Liverpool [at Anfield].

“The atmosphere was incredible, so I’m enjoying every second here. Hopefully we win the league and then see what could happen.”

However, Brown has insisted the club are lining up contract talks and the winger is keen to stay, although a final decision may not be made for a while yet.

Football Insider revealed as early as September that the Reds will do “everything they can” to keep Salah at the club and to stave off interest from Saudi Arabia.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience working closely with players at the top level including in over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the winger is equally keen to stay, but they must make him an offer soon.

I don’t believe he wants to leave Liverpool,” he told Football Insider.

“From what I’m told, he’d be quite happy to sign a new deal and stay there if there is one on the table.

“As things stand, we’re led to believe that offer hasn’t been made.

“But I know Liverpool want to tie him down and keep him for the future, which is huge, because he’s been such an important player for them and still is.

“Regardless of whether they win the title this season, they want him to remain an important player.

“Otherwise, if they lose him, their chances of winning the title again will be severely dented.

“But they’ll have to make that offer soon, even if the final decision isn’t made until later on, because otherwise what is he going to think?

“The longer it goes on without an offer, questions are going to be asked about why.”
