‘Liverpool well placed to agree more signings’ after record-breaking news

Liverpool could be set to strengthen their squad significantly this summer following their successful campaign.

Arne Slot led his side to the Premier League title in his first season at Anfield, having replaced Jurgen Klopp last summer.

Football Insider revealed on 12 May Liverpool are prioritising signing a new striker, centre-back and left-back in the upcoming transfer window.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Florian Wirtz after making him a top target, with Bayer Leverkusen believed to be looking for a fee in the region of £125million.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the Merseyside giants have plenty of profit and sustainability (PSR) capacity to agree deals this summer.

Liverpool posted a record-breaking revenue in 2023-24 after their turnover improved from £594milliion in 2022-23 to £614million.

However, their wage bill also increased from £373million to £386million across the same period.

Liverpool owners to dictate summer spending plans

Borson insisted Liverpool’s summer spending will be dictated by how much their owners want to invest.

He told Football Insider: “They have got loads of capacity.

“They are very well run right now, especially if they can get a couple of sales in for a profit as well, which I think is always likely.

“The wage bill is very high. That’s the only thing that you need to mention when you talk about Liverpool from this perspective, that their wage bill has been historically high.

“I don’t think it’s going to be any different next season, although they are losing Alexander-Arnold.

“He’s probably on a decent salary, but clearly they’ve re-signed Salah and Van Dijk, so you’re talking about big chunks there.

“Then all the bonuses they’re going to have paid, so they’ll have a big wage bill in the numbers for this year.

“But they’ve got plenty of capacity on PSR.

“It’s just not an issue, so the question will be what do they want to invest and much more about what do the owners want to invest as opposed to whether they can do it from a PSR perspective.”

Anthony Gordon to Liverpool deal reignited

In terms of on-field matters, Football Insider revealed on 22 May Liverpool have reignited their interest in Anthony Gordon and could pursue a deal worth up to £100million.

The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Anfield last summer, but he remained at St James’ Park.

The winger registered nine goals and seven assists in 42 appearances for Newcastle United this season.
