Liverpool will be angry with Mohamed Salah as 'huge' claim made - expert
Alex McLeish has insisted Liverpool will be “annoyed” Mohamed Salah played for Egypt while carrying an injury.
The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested there may have been a breakdown in communication between the Reds and the 29-year-old.
As reported by BBC Sport (6 June), Salah refused Liverpool’s request to have a scan on an injury before playing the full 90 minutes against Guinea on Sunday.
Egypt boss Ehab Galal confirmed the winger played through the problem during the 1-0 win and would undergo an X-ray this week.
McLeish admitted the demands for players playing for club and country are “huge”.
He insisted Liverpool would be unhappy with their star attacker for his decision while on international duty.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Liverpool will be the same as every club. They look at the international scene and the demands that are being put on the players in general.
“I don’t mean just mean the international scene, because I was there, I wanted players to come play with me. Some didn’t make it, there were injuries a lot of the time but I know the demands on a modern-day player.
“Back in the day we were playing 60-odd games. Nowadays, it seems there are games every four to five days. It’s a huge demand, mentally and physically.
“I think Liverpool will be a little bit annoyed with the country situation and him playing. Whether Liverpool have had the dialogue with him, that sometimes is missing. The international managers and setups will always want their piece of the cake as well.”
Salah played 51 times across all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign.
