Liverpool work on box-office signing after confirmed talks news – sources

Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Mohammed Kudus amid uncertainty over Mohamed Salah’s future, sources have told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old has emerged near the top of the Reds’ list of targets should their star man decide to leave the club at the end of the season.

Salah’s contract situation remains up in the air, with less than a year remaining on his current deal, and he will be allowed to discuss terms over a move away from January.

The Egyptian superstar further ramped up the pressure on Liverpool on Sunday by revealing he is “more out than in” and yet to be offered a formal contract by the club.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown previously told Football Insider that Liverpool have already begun working on finding a box-office replacement for the winger.

Now, Kudus is firmly on Liverpool’s radar, with scouts impressed by his performances since arriving in the Premier League in 2023.

The West Ham star is attracting plenty of interest following his side’s slow start to the season, and is said to be open to a move come the end of the season.

Kudus has started eight league games for the Hammers so far this season, but has missed the last three games after receiving a red card against Tottenham.

Since his move to West Ham in 2023, he has established himself as one of the most highly-regarded attacking players in the league, with a number of clubs keeping tabs on his progress.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Arsenal are also monitoring the winger and could make a move to sign him in the summer transfer window.

He is viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Salah given his age and potential to establish himself as a key player in Arne Slot’s side for the foreseeable future.

Kudus’ threat in front of goal, combined with dribbling and creative abilities, have seen him become one of the leading targets for Liverpool ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

However, given his importance to Julen Lopetegui’s side, the Hammers are expected to demand a significant fee to entertain talks over his exit.

Football Insider revealed in October that the Ghana international has an £85million release clause in his contract which clubs may struggle to meet.
