Liverpool ‘would love’ to sign Youri Tielemans after manager’s confession – pundit

Arsenal and Liverpool “would love” to sign Leicester contract rebel Youri Tielemans this summer, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old midfielder “ticks a lot of boxes” for clubs in the Premier League’s top four.

Tielemans is out of contract at the King Power Stadium in June 2023.

Speaking to Sky Sports (13 February), Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers suggested the Foxes must “be ready” for the Belgium international to depart.

Rodgers admitted the 24-year-old could leave in the summer unless he commits his future to the FA Cup holders.

Whelan insisted Tielemans has been a “fantastic servant” for Leicester.

“He’s one of these players who has everything that clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool would love,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’s very neat and tidy on the ball, fantastic creator, brilliant passing range, he works hard, set pieces – he ticks a lot of boxes for the clubs in that top four.

“I’m sure all of them would like to have a player of his quality and ability in their ranks.

“It does seem like the Leicester and Tielemans love affair is set to come to an end, and Brendan has probably realised that.

“He’s been a fantastic servant to Leicester, but when you have a quality player like him – no disrespect to Leicester – there’s always going to be the bigger animals looking to prise these players away. That’s just how football is.”

Tielemans has played 136 times for Leicester since joining the club in July 2019.

The former Monaco man has scored seven goals and grabbed three assists in 28 games this term.
