Liverpool’s Isak vs Haaland in Le Tissier’s top 3 for Premier League Golden Boot winner

Erling Haaland is the favourite to win the 2025/26 Golden Boot but he will face a stiff challenge from two other similarly potent number nines.

That is according to Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier, who told Football Insider exclusively that if Alexander Isak joins Liverpool, the Sweden international will be a challenger to Man City‘s star man.

Haaland netted 22 times in 31 Premier League games last season, the Norway international’s lowest return in a sky blue shirt since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

The drop-off in output mirrored his side’s struggles in the 2024/25 campaign as City finished trophy-less and 13 points behind champions Liverpool.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side have been active in the market this summer as they look to remedy the issues that took hold last term.

Rayan Ait-Nouri has joined from Wolves, Tijjani Reijnders was signed from AC Milan, and Haaland will have a new creative maestro behind him after Rayan Cherki was plucked from the financially-stricken Lyon.

Viktor Gyokeres surprise pick for Golden Boot

This article contains exclusive comment from former Southampton and England striker Matt Le Tissier.

Having scored an astonishing 124 goals in 146 appearances in all competitions, it came as no surprise when Le Tissier told Football Insider that Haaland is his favourite for the Golden Boot this season.

Neither did his prediction that Isak would be in the running if he makes a move to Liverpool this summer, after the Sweden international finished second in the Premier League’s scoring charts last year.

However, the inclusion of another Swede did come as a shock. Le Tissier chose Arsenal’s new signing Viktor Gyokeres as another contender for the award, leaving out last year’s winner Mohamed Salah altogether.

The former Southampton striker told Football Insider exclusively: “You can never really look too far past Haaland because he’s just an out-and-out machine when it comes to scoring goals. Even in a bad season, he’ll rack up mid-20s, early-30s.

“I think the challengers to him would be Isak, if he goes to Liverpool, they create a lot of chances there and he is a very good finisher.

“Gyokeres has had a couple of good years and Arsenal create lots of chances.

“They’ve been gagging for a centre-forward for a couple of years now so he should really be licking his lips at the thought of being first choice in that team with the amount of chances that they create.

“That would be my top three for me for the top scorers.”

Man City eye deal for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo

Building around Haaland has worked a treat for the Sky Blues in recent years, but the loss of Kevin De Bruyne to Napoli has forced the club to go in search of players who can provide for the Norway international.

Man City are interested in Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as they look to bolster their attacking departments.

Whilst Cherki will be a valuable addition at left wing, Jack Grealish’s departure on loan to Everton leaves Guardiola light on options in that area.

Rodrygo has registered double-digit assists in two of the last three seasons and would offer a more direct option to the former Lyon man.
