Liverpool’s kind gesture to allow Aston Villa to complete Harvey Elliott deal revealed

Aston Villa could only beat RB Leipzig to the signing of Harvey Elliott due to one key thing Liverpool did to complete the deal.

Harvey Elliott has gained interest over the summer as the 22-year-old searches for more playing time this season.

RB Leipzig pursued Elliott, but Aston Villa moved on transfer deadline day to complete a loan deal for the midfielder.

A host of new attacking signings like Alexander Isak have joined Liverpool, further limiting the chances Elliott would get if he stayed at Anfield.

Liverpool gesture helps Aston Villa complete deal

As per The Athletic [2 September], Aston Villa were admirers of Elliott but doubtful whether a move could materialise “due to finances and RB Leipzig’s interest.”

Aston Villa were helped by Liverpool being “open to structuring a favourable deal,” as the club look to comply with UEFA restrictions.

Elliott has joined Aston Villa on a loan with an obligation to buy, with the package worth up to £35million.

Football Insider Verdict

Before transfer deadline day, the window was looking bleak for Aston Villa with the club looking weaker heading into the campaign than the squad which finished the last one.

Aston Villa were interested in resigning Marcos Asensio and Marcus Rashford, two loan players who made an impact in the second half of last season.

Both players though decided to go elsewhere, and a move to bring Nicolas Jackson to Villa Park never materialised.

Emery has been able to keep hold of Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rodgers, and Emi Martinez amid strong links to rivals for the trio.

Jacob Ramsey has joined Newcastle in the most substantial loss, but Elliott’s arrival should now help fill that void.

Elliott has creativity and an eye for goal, something Aston Villa are currently lacking.

His arrival should instantly improve Emery’s side, and at £35m or below this could be a major coup for the club.
