Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has made an honest admission that the team’s “main target” is to secure a place in the top-four.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have secured a spot in the Champions League for the last two consecutive seasons.
However, Spurs have struggled to keep pace with the current Premier League table toppers Manchester City who currently hold an 11 point advantage over the North London club.
Tottenham are currently in fourth position but league rivals Liverpool and Arsenal are only one point behind them in the race for the top-four.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, goalkeeper Lloris believes that Spurs should concentrate on securing a place in the first four spots before seeking to win the league title.
“Before we think about City it’s important to stay in the top four. This is the main target for our team,” he said.
“We heard from outside that Tottenham play for the title, blah, blah, blah.
“The most important thing is to stay consistent in the League.
“Obviously the future for Tottenham will be bright if we keep the same mentality. It’s our ambition, but step by step.”
The France international has been in fine form during the early stages of the season, keeping six clean sheets in all competitions.
Lloris has been one of the main reasons why Spurs boast the joint third best defensive record in the Premier League this season – only conceding nine goals in 12 matches.
The shot-stopper will be looking to get back on track with his side following the North London derby defeat on the weekend, when Tottenham meet Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
